I Love Goldfish!

Author: Sahil | Category: Music

I just recently got hooked on a group called Goldfish! I do have to tell you that with the way companies are advertising their products with new and catchy tunes ala iPod and others has really been effective as far as a strategy! What kind of market research do I have to back it… well, it got me didn’t it? That’s how I got hooked! I saw this Kia Soul commercial mid last year and it featured a song called “Fort Knox” by Goldfish and I haven’t been able to get the tune out of my head! By no means am I supporting Kia and how they are now my favorite car company ever, that is still held by Lamborghini, but I am supporting the music!

“Fort Knox” is featured on the dynamic duo’s album “Perceptions of Pacha”. The album features a dizzying array of jazzy elements, combined with deep house groves. Throw in some live keyboards, saxophones a double bass on the widely diverse track listings and it becomes one fun album for your speakers! From everything that I have read, they are a amazing live act as well!

Goldfish - Perceptions of Pacha

“Perceptions of Pacha” is a follow up to the largely popular self-released ‘underground’ album “Caught in the loop” which was released in 2006! Dominic Peters and David Poole already boast an amazing resume. Their live sets are legendary utilizing their instruments and performing to sold-out shows everywhere. They have opened up for major acts like Fatboy Slim, Paul van Dyk, Pete Tong and Stereo MCs to name a few!

“You couldn’t find two guys more passionate about music, and if you’ve seen their live show, you will agree that ‘Re-invention of the DJ’ is about as close as you can get to describing what they do. Combining live instruments like Double bass, Saxophones, Keyboards, Flute, and Vocals with Samplers, Effects, Synths and a healthy dollop of freeform improvisation, Goldfish have hit a nerve on dance floors across the world. Known fondly just as the ‘Fishies’ to their legions of loyal fans, it was always a matter of not ‘if’ but ‘when’ for this duo. Suddenly Goldfish have found themselves on the brink of a rollercoaster ride that will launch them full throttle into the international spot light. After extensive negotiations Goldfish’s second album has been signed to Pacha, one of the worlds’ biggest club and lifestyle brands, a massive achievement and further confirmation of the duo’s destiny to take the world by storm.”

This album is really strong across the board. I love the great grooves fusing Jazz, Dance and Electronica with live instruments.  I hear some borderline funk underlying some of the tunes. The album shows some amazing creativity and the results are quite memorable.  The first side of the double album features the songs in their original formats while the second disc displays a dizzying array of remixed versions of the tunes that shed a new light at the sheer talent of the artists and the great DJs work to open up the memorable tunes in a broader more club ready format.

The opening track “Sold my Soul” has a great beat bringing in the color of the African musical landscape with great vocals and strong complementing percussions.  “Just for Tonight” and “Coming Home” really shows off their versatility by incorporating a strong sax lead that layers a great jazzy feel to the danceable tracks. There isn’t a tune on this album that I had a problem with or thought they let off the pedal when putting together. The lead female singer in the downtempo tune ”This Is How It Goes” has a sultry sexy quality about her singing style. This is a blissful chilled album with a great beat that can easily be grooved with. I really recommend it to everyone, especially the group of people that love exploring new music and want to expand their musical diversity. I bought the album on Walmart’s website. 22 tracks for 9 bucks is worth the price of admission!

These artists are fun to listen to and definitely have me tapping my toes! Just to think that I owe my current musical bliss to a dancing hamster driving a Kia Soul! Gotta love those marketing gimmicks!
